You're near the coast, how far from the sea, do you ride on the beach ?
I [glow=red,2,300]REALLY[/glow] want to take my two to the beach for a ride ! I am planning to go sometime in Aug, prolly the weekend of 20th and 21st Aug, to the coast, either Holmes, or Holkham or Wells ?? I wouldn't mind some advice on where to go ??

Well I can't ride on any of the beaches near me although they are close enough to hack to.....they are too touristy for that and also have too much stone and not enough sand.
Holkham is a must.......it is fantastic! Lots and lots of sand if you get the tide right. You'll have to pay to park there but it is worth it.

I had considered Holkham. My mate said it was Holmes that she took me to on her horse (years ago this was ) and that was nice and sandy. Which would be quieter to ride on ? And what about tides ? Does the tide go out in the mornings and come in at night, or vice versa ? (Sorry, been a while since I saw the sea, sad eh lol ?!) I can't wait to go, and my daughter is coming with me too. Just hope the ponies will be okay

Holkham is basically a large bay and has plenty of sand because of it. In the summer it is quite busy in the parking area (horses are separated from the general public) but once you get out onto the beach it is very quiet.....because it is so big!
I don't know about Holmes as I have never been there so I can only advice on Holkham, but if you are looking for somewhere that is calm then Holkham would probably suit.
As far as tides are concerned they change all the time. You really need to get your hands on the tide book for the north norfok coast or you may be able to look it up on the internet. It will give you the times that are best for particular days. If you wanted to go on the 20th, you'd be able to look up this date and find out when the tide is going out and when it is coming in. To be honest Holkham is so large there is nearly always sand to ride on so I wouldn't worry too much.........I have never been there when the sea is completely in......it may never come completely in, I don't know.

I think it'll be Holkham Beach for us then ? Will check the tide times nearer the day ? I did try emailing the coast website but it got bounced back !

Hi, another one from Norfolk. I have ridden at Holme but only when staying with the riding club at Ringstead. There isn't any parking there for trailers or lorries. We rode cross country to Hunstanton then galloped down the beach (after a bit of a play in the sea) but you have to look out for the big bins as there is very soft sand which is dangerous the other side of Holme. At the right time of year a snack bar is open so we could stop and have an ice-cream before the long ride back across country. Did this for quite a few years before my boy had to be retired. Hope to do it again once I get my baby to canter properly! Holkham is great and there is a field to have a picnic in. Go in the week if you can because it gets really busy at the weekends. Hope you get there and have a great time.

[glow=blue,2,300]Why thank you Misty !
I think I will be choosing Holkham in any case, as better parking access ?[/glow]
