My friend was asking me today if there was any reason that you couldn't use synthetic stirrup leathers on a leather saddle - for example, would the synthetic material wear the leather more than leather against leather?
I didn't have an answer for her, but thought I would ask on here.

Hm, don't know about that way round - my saddler warned me that having leather stirrup leathers on synthetic may mark it, but it never did. I really don't like synthetic leathers anyway, I guess they might make it rub more but don't know for sure.

I think they do rub more. All my leathers are now odd from being restitched and so I have had to use synthetic ones for a while. I am sure they have worn the leather much more than the leather leathers do!

Thanks - I'll let her know. Is there anyone on here who uses synthetic leathers with leather saddle?

when i got a saddle amde for lloyd, (it was leather) the saddle fitter said not to use synthetic leathers, as they could damage the leather saddle. not sure how though. it could be though that she wanted me to buy leather stirrup leathers from her, as she would get more money!
