I was moved to tears right up till the man stood on him. That was too much for me and what was he waving the whip around for? May have been a point but all the teamwork went out of it for me then and stopped watching. Stunning pony.

I was moved to tears right up till the man stood on him. Agreed. Didn't see the point of that either, talk about anticlimax! Re cracking the whip - this is something the Hungarian csicos (wranglers) do too in their shows for tourists. Apparently it is to show how well-behaved the horses are despite all that goes around them. Never could understand that either, since the horses are bound to be fairly used to the cracking whips anyway. Makes a bit of a spectacular show-off anyway. It's quite interesting the see how the pony reacts when he has to perform anything dominant towards the man, i.e. backing up towards him or rearing in front of him. The moment he gets his reward he lowers his head and chews and licks. Gives you the feeling it can't be too easy for him..

To get a horse to stay down aren't you supposed to put weight on it - like sitting or standing, so wouldn't it be more impressive if he was stood next to not on the horse? I might be wrong mind.
The ground work at the beggingin and the riding was impressive though - my internet was being a bit awkward and so I kept missing big bits, but what I saw looked good.

I think this just serves to show the level of intelligence horses actually have. To think of them being herded/abused into lorries for the meat market etc makes me very sad. I don't like the power man has over animals, but do have to say I saw no abuse in this clip. Even the standing on the horse isn't that bad to me...horses can do all sorts of things to eachother in the field while playing. So, I shall be going up to my horse tomorrow, and start on a demo of our own !!!(not) LOL

If you search here for Horse Whisperer Too it is the same man and horse. You will see that it isn't necessary to stand on this horse, or put any pressure on him, to make him lay down. You can bury him in sand and he doesn't mind... Although I have no inclination to stand on a horse, I have been assured by my vet that if you are positioned carefully it won't do them any physical harm. I see Honza seems to be quite careful to stand in the right place. If you do watch the Horse Whisperer Too please hang in there beyond the giggling girls at the begining. It's just a bit of fun put together over a couple of hours. I wish I could knock something like that together with my horses in a couple of hours.
