Looking at different bedding products as alternative to shavings.Would like something more economical and biodegradable. Has anyone tried Woody Pet bedding? Would be interested in recommendations. Thanks

I use Aquamax (which is like Woody Pet Bedding).
I have to say it's EXCELLENT! Very absorbent, doesn't smell, is really very easy to muck out and, despite it being like saw dust when it's dampened down, it isn't dusty. It also has the advantage that the bedding doesn't get stuck to his rugs like shavings (that must really irritate the poor horse!).
Floyd can wee and Pooh for England but his bed stays dry (providing he doesn't tip his water all over the floor as he is prone to do if he's been in longer than he'd like!)
I also tried Megazorb which I did like but I found in the winter months t wasn't as absorbent as Aquamax.
I started off the bed with 8 bags and I use 1 bag a week just to top up. (If he's thrown his water everywhere, I put two bags in).
As I say I've been very impressed with it.

I use Auboise or Hemcore (same thing) in my stables and LOVE the stuff! You really have to semi deep litter with it though otherwise it does not work to it's full potential and would be quite expensive. I put down about 5 bages for half a stable floor and damp it down as instructed on the bag. I then only remove the poo. Leave the wee daily but give it a full muck out every 3-4 weeks and treat as shavings, throwing the good into a bank and removing the wet. The wee only ever starts coming to the surface when it is 'full' so to speak and needs a muck out and it never smells. It is also rots down very quickly as my muck heaps are ready for the local gardeners within about 6 months. Great stuff but you have to get into the deep litter mindset.

I use Hemcore with an enzyme (powder & liquid) treatment by Biohealth and replace the bed every 18 months to 2 years - whenever it's stopped becoming absorbent, It doesn't smell at all, rots from the bottom, as you top-up on the top, and can be put straight onto the garden when it's taken out. I use about a bale per month after the initial stage but that's because it's in a field shelter which is used to stand lie & wee in, but rarely pooed in (they are removed). It maintains the same depth, it's warm, and keeps compacted despite being rolled on by 2 horses regularly!

I am a paper bedding fan, been using it here for 2 years and its fab, no pee smell lingering on my clothes or horses rugs, dry floors after mucking out, small muck heap and breaks down very, very quick. If you try it do try one that looks like its several pages thick, concertina cut around 1-2" long (I have tried various other cuts in years gone by and all rubbish) think the web link is www.regencybedding.co.uk I think anyway will go check and amend if wrong. p.s. theres a pic of daughter on Peppi as they were trying to prove the print did not come of on light horses

We use Hunter shavings and find them great. My friend semi deep litters but I do a full muck out every day. Excellent quality, go a long way, never dusty or smelly.

I use dengie medibed or dixon's dustless which are two very similar chopped straw beddings. Both are dust-extracted and the bales are huge! Brilliant for deep litter but also very good for a normal bed. Robin was far too messy on shavings or easibed so I tried this and it has been fantastic. The medibed is slightly more expensive but it is a prettier colour, the dixon's dustless is a bit grey. Since I've been using it about 6 people on the yard have starting using it, its the 'in-thing' now. My friend has lavender flavour dixon's dustless, I find the smell a bit over-powering but better than the smell of urine I suppose.
