Ok - very bored at work today... how much weight would you put on a section A and how tall is too tall? I think I have found a perfect pony for myself but at 11.2 I honestly think he is going to be too small... off to shrink myself tonight!

Depends on the pony! Some Welsh are real weight carriers, some aren't. I used to ride my 12hh Welsh A (who's now out on loan), and I'm 5'3" and 8 1/2 stone then - but Hero is a pretty solid lad.

Ok - so don't laugh... I am 5'7 and 9.5 stone - I think I must have been dreaming!

I think that on an 11.2hh pony, you're probably being a little optimistic. Unless this pony is built like a sherman tank, with your longer legs, you're going to struggle to keep them in position I would think. Also, the pony might (if, as said, is built like a tank) carry your weight but would need to be mature & strong & used to work. At my height & weight (was 9 stone until recently), I also was riding our 11.1hh welsh x shettie - but she has inheirited her built from the shettie side, and she IS built like a tank! She is as wide as she is tall!

section A's used to carry farmers over the mountains years ago, they are stronger than you think, ok you might look silly, but doubt the animal would be affected. I used to ride my daughters sec A, I'm 5'3 and 9 stone, and even though I didn't look silly, I just didn't find him comfy after my sec D.

Most of the old farmers I know round here who remember the days of having ponies tended to have cob types, and besides...hill ponies are ten a penny in Wales and could, and were, worked into the ground with little thought for their welfare.
I'd like a section A though--probably not to ride, because at 5 7" I think I'm too tall, but I don't know what sort of weight they can safely carry. The old notion of a stone per hand seems euphemistic to me, it would put me on a little SHetland and I wouldn't feel comfortable with that at all!
