Went to get Scud in ready for vet to do jabs and he has a very gunky nose, washed it off with saline solution and within 10 mins another lot of gunk Told vet as he pulled up that he had this so not able to do jab. But as vet was here I asked him to check temp/lungs and he is up 1degree and his lungs were congested he said so poor scuddly duddly is now on antibiotics and bute for 5 days. Poor fella, the only sign prior to this was a couple of coughs last week which I put down to just coming up from grass and a little clear liquid but then nothing. Anyway he is not off his feed so once meds kick in he will hopefully pull back quite quick. Apart from not wanting him to be pooly the downside is that he cannot be boostered till fully recovered and this will take him over the accepted date and he will have to start again Still rather that than a really sick boy.

Carole - hope he feels better soon, i had a little chat with my vet this morning as my mare was boosted on New Years day last yr when we had an emergency vet out for another pony however obviously not convenient to do that every yr - LOL Anyway she assures me that as long as you are not competing etc then it is not absolutely essential to have the exact date and isn't a major prob if you go over as i have this yr by 3 days. I did question that how can they tell that the jabs last exactly 365 days and she answered honestly that they can't and they are just like humans, some jabs will expire before the yr is up and some won't, i asked if it was necessary to start my mare up again and she assured me that it wasn't however if it went over say 2 wks overdue then she would be concerned that it would need starting again?
Not sure how i feel about this really so am going to do some research into it as i really don't understand how they can tell how each individual animal is going to react. I mean the jab dosen't increase with size of pony/horse either so surely an 18hh shires body would use the jab up quicker than an 11hh shettie? Dosen't seem logical to me!

Thanks for the good wishes everyone. He is having another feed at 10 with more antibiotics as per vet, he is eating up well so hopefully things will improve fairly quickly, he does seem a tiny bit miffed that he cannot eat his hay as quickly as normal, guess its like humans having bunged up nose and needing to breath through mouth. Ponypit, sadly the intention is to compete and most of the county shows or ones held on racecourse request copy of vacc. card and some of the bigger dressage places insist on it too, so will really have to do it as although we are not quite at the level I will eventaully need it done so best sooner before I forget.
