Mmmm, not the introduction to the bit and lunge I would like. Didn't like the video, he was understandably mouthy.

Yep, but people have given her some advice and she seems to be taking notice. From the other threads there she's the only one trying to do anything nice with this horse, just sooo inexperienced. It's a sad story. Crystal Fire

Might be normal Egyptian practice, perhaps? The lunge pen looked well used--the stablehand was about a foot or two higher than the poor horse because the track was so well worn....

Well, I looked at it this way. I could either express my feelings Or try to give her an indication that there is a different way to do things. The horse isn't hers, and at the end of the day if she wasn't involved these "grooms" would go ahead and break the horse their way regardless. There's this totally inexperienced young lady trying to make some improvements to the horse's life and she's surrounded by complete d***heads. But - it's Egypt for goodness sake, can't exactly nip round and help. I thought that if people really got into one with her we might never hear from her again. At least being on the forum she will pick up some good ideas - whether or not she can do anything about them is another matter of course. Having said all that - it's scarey just how many people there seemed to think how good it all was. I think someone said he really knew his circle or something. Well, duh - he's at the outer limits of a round pen, what other shape is he going to run away in?? Grrrr.... You know what? This sort of thing is happening every day in this country, in livery yards near us.

BTW she lets him out in the school to stretch his legs every now and then. If she didn't he'd be in his stall 24/7. Makes you weep doesn't it?

have to say that although I cringed at the horses head being twisted by the pulling of the bit (couldnt see the video my omputer cant cope) and him cantering rond in a small space as well as it being the first time hed had a bit in and first time hed been lunged, the girl is obviously trying to make his life happier and any good advise people give her and she managed to use to make this horses life better is positive.
What gets me more, like KAS, is that there are lots of people saying "awww" and "how nice" and "isnt he going well" ummm..hmmmm!!!!

oh bless poor thing, still like Kas says it is Egypt and to be honest this poor horse is probably one of the better cared for over there. As Mentioned perhaps we could be supportive and helpful rather than up there on our high horses which I know is easier said than done, she's clearly listening and learning from the advice which is a difficult thing to do when no one else is NH minded!
I did cringe a bit at some of the ohh isnt he going well's

Quote: "he only fell over once" That is a misquote - the actual post said "he did fall over once", you have twisted her words to imply that she expected the horse to fall over. him cantering rond in a small space as well I think someone said he really knew his circle or something. Well, duh - he's at the outer limits of a round pen, what other shape is he going to run away in?? Grrrr.... You know, exactly the same could be said of some peoples attempts at join up........

Not sure what your point is anonny, but it seems we are agreeing that there are better ways of starting out with a young horse? (I don't use Join Up).

What concerned me was the first few replies to the thread. I feel very sorry for the girl as she is obviously doing her upmost to help this horse.

I dont feel sorry for her. She may have the best intentions but she is lunging a youngster when she clearly knows nothing about handling youngsters! What was stopping her getting some knowledgable advice before she decided to bit and lunge it?
I just hope she takes heed of the advice given!

linz, if you read the thread properly she isnt lunging the horse she is trying to make sure the horse isnt backed the traditional egyption way which is wack a bit in saddle on and rider on top, she fully amits she knows little but wants to help the horse as owners are not interested!

linz, if you read the thread properly I did read through the thread properly thank you! I still stand by my opinion though that perhaps she should have asked for advice before taking it upon herself to try and train a youngster with no experience! She says that the horse fell over. She also says that the horse doesnt belong to her. She could have got into quite a lot of trouble is that horse was injured by that fall!
