Just read 'Dark Horses & Black Beauties' by Melissa Holbrook Pierson.
It is a great book and certainly a tear jerker. I read the author considered that it was 'not tremendously popular in the horse world'
I think that is very sad. Has anyone else read the book?
If not it is worth reading. I would like to hear any comments. Thanks.

i read it a few years ago and i remember reading it in disbelief at how accurate it descibes how precious horses are and how the love for horses just springs out of now where.

Not a big book really, and very readable. Although it's about the way that women relate to horses emotionally and spiritually, I found that some of it applied to me too. Not sure what that means exactly apart from the fact that horses can also be deeply significant for guys.

Like I say the author feels like it has not been very highly thought of in the Horse World. I would like to prove her wrong. It is merely ahead of its time.
It is well worth reading. Apart from the bit about pit ponies that made burst out crying. It has a great quote from Monty too. An interviewer asks Monty how a Horse could see our fingers as claws and how could they make the mistake of seeing us as a predator. And Monty replies with some frustration: 'They make no mistake'

Hmm, I have the book, and there were definitely bits of it I enjoyed, but wasn't exactly overwhelmed by it.

Looks like it's one I'll have to get.
At the moment I'm reading Horses and the Mystical Path: the Celtic Way of Expanding the Human Soul by Adele, Marlena and Thomas McCormick. I bought it because I thought Neal would think I should. It is a fascinating blend of horses and people the authors have known and their part in expanding their souls.
I've read half of it since this morning and need more tissues before I can continue!

Oh! You, you read my mind again.
I am just starting Yo Meow Ma, which looks promising but I am also reading, The Tao of Horses by Elizabeth McCall; Dancing with Your Dark Horses by Chris Irwin; and Toxic Parents by Susan Forward Ph.D
