My boy really put a smile on my face today. I went for a ride around a local estate which requires a permit. A couple of months ago I rode round there and fell off onto one of the jumps to watch Blue trotting off around the corner. I was on my own and luckily managed to catch him and get back on. The incident shook me up. Anyway I rode around the estate again and got annoyed with myself as I was petrified of little jumps that I had done before. I managed to do a couple of small jumps and thought I'd do one more before heading home. I thought I'd jump a small log next to a big log and Blue headed towards the big one and did a nice little 'pop' over it rather than his usual leap. So happy I got a bit of nerve back. Before I get shot down for being on my own - the other owners from my yard barely ride and if they do they're more into dressage or small hacks. I couldn't convince anybody to get a permit so go on my own. I do tell people where I'm going and my mobile number is on a disc on Blue's bridle in case we get separated.

Thank you.
Sara, shame we're not closer, Blue is kept in Redbourn in Hertfordshire.
Sunnylynn, I thought of the idea when I heard about my friend coming off her horse out riding on her own. Unfortunately she passed out and he was found wandering the high street on his own.

Just a quick point ninawithblue if you havnt got a permit for the estate you will probably not have any insurance cover if anything went wrong( an even worse fall?) I ride on M.O.D. land and Forestry Commision land and just wouldnt do it without a permit. I dont want to spoil your fun but just thought you may not have thought of that. ;D

Hi Miggy I have indeed got a permit, it costs £70 per year. That's why I cant convince anybody else at the yard to get one. I also had to show them a copy of my insurance documents before they would issue me with the permit. Thanks for the advice though Nina

Sorry ninawitblue- miss read the thread, our M.O.D. permits are £97 a year which i think is fantastic value as i mainly hack and there are lots of jumps there as well, my friend and i (after many years of trying) got the permit dept. to agree on a universal permit which allows us to go on 5 different areas and that one costs £200 a year , which gives us an amazing selection of places to go, and most peoples reaction is "that is so expensive"

Well done Nina for being so brave and getting some confidence back. Good on you!
I am very jealous that you have such a fantastic place to ride. i would love somewhere like that. Miggy I would happily pay #200 a year to access good off road riding. Sadly I am hundreds of miles away!

Unfortunately i don't have transport at the moment, plus horse is not good to load. Although if I had transport I'm sure he'd be better by now as i could practice!! Need to work on OH some more lol.

Sounds great - and makes me appreciates my hacking all for free straight from the field! Miles of bridleways across Milton Keynes.
