I was out today, having a lovely hack, with two other horses. We were on our way home, and walking down a narrow country lane, when we heard all of this shouting behind us. Two gypsies driving 2 ponies came hurtling around the corner in their traps, shouting and screaming. their horses were trotting so fast, and they were coming straight at us. All three of the horses totally flipped out, spinning round, ruby tried to bolt off, but luckily bev her rider managed to get her back under control after a few strides. I managed to pull lloyd into turning a tight circle, not nice, but he would have been galloping down the road if i didn't, and fleur had an absolutle paddy. the gypsies saw all of this, SPEEDED UP, and flew past us, laughing and shouting that we needed to get our horses under control! i am so angry. luckily for us, all of our three horses are amazingly laid back, are fantastic in traffic, and not spooky, but they were still scared. what if one of us had been ridding a youngster, or a flighty horse? I am fuming, can't believe people can be so irresponicble. sorry, rant over!

Thats terrible, some people just dont care and once they are ok they dont care. You are lucky that all of yous managed to get your horses undercontrol and i suppose the main thing is no one was hurt. Have you seen them before?

Good god, if that had been my horse Bobby out on the hack I dread to think what might have happened. There is absolutely no way he could have coped with that.
Thank goodness that you were all okay. This could have been a real tragedy. Personally I would report this to the police, the next group of people out hacking might not be as fortunate as thankfully you and your friends were today. You really do have to wonder at some people don't you?

Wow, my boy would have flipped!. Well done to your horses for being so good. The trouble with people like this is they have absolutely no regard for anyone else so you will argue till youre blue in the face & still not get anywhere.

Ooh I know how you feel Sara. We have some trotters by us and they train by trotting round the roads at full pelt. They have been reported to the police for holding up the traffic on the main road, but they still do it, poor ponies! They're usually very young ponies as well, some little more than foals. It makes me cringe when I see them, unfortunately there's not a lot we can do about it.
One came past me the other day when I was leading my boy out for a walk (just gone barefoot so he needs lots of walking on tarmac to condition his feet). Well he tried to slow the pony down and it ended up slipping and sliding down the road, completely freaked my boy out and he started spinning round me, prancing up the road, doing mini rears, etc. Very, very scarey when I was on foot! I was so mad, esp when I got mucky looks from people in cars trying to get past me and my lunatic (normally quiet) horse. Grrrrrrrrr!
Glad you're all ok though.
