Kind of a fun and interesting poll I thought up. ;D Is your horse one that is loud all the time or are they silent? I came up with this because when I visit fairs I see horses that always whinny at eachother and those who don't talk at all.
I have two slient types. The only noise they make is when they see me and they make a little nicker and that is about it. Otherise they prefer to speak through facial expressions.

Alfie is terrible, apart from the fact him says hello every time I go see him he talks to him self when you riding.
Every time he gets excited or goes over a jump he grunts.Alot. Doesn't have to be obviously excited. If a horse goes by he doesn't always react(Horses cantering by is veryyyy exciting) but he grunts. If he is feeling particularly vocal he will just do it while your trotting quietly round.
He also does it quiet a bit in the field and very occasionally in the stable.
Embarrassing, sounds like I'm beating him up

Sula does whicker to me when I get to the yard. She also whinnies for her friend if she is bought into her stable first, but apart from that she is fairly quiet. But who knows what she is thinking LOL

Sarah-lee the same but also when she knows there's a donkey in the vascinity Blue-very insecure, doesn't like me leaving Amber-never heard her say a word!

Mine whickers away all the time when i am around!! He will whinny and gallop over to you in the field and not stop talking till he is brought in. In the morning and at tea time he is very vocal, but in a cute whicker way not a noisey whinny way!!

Two of mine have a Pavlov`s Dogs type response to the yard gate clicking. They hear the gate and whinny ( and probably salivate too!).

lloyd will sometime neigh when i am on the way home from a ride, and he is on his own. but when i am at shows and there are lots of horses around, he is awful, doesn't stop calling all the time that we are there. maybe he is trying to announce that he is there?!

Mine neighs. A lot. He neighs when he sees you, and sometimes when you leave if he reckons you've not fed him enough. He occasionally neighs VERY LOUDLY to other horses, but mostly doesn't bother. He has an entire range of grunts, huffs, and squeals, and the most ridiculous high pitched whinny he does while clicker training and he realises he's due a big treat. And he nickers every time he thinks he's got something right to encourage me to hand over the carrots--I have a feeling he's trying to clicker train me!

Got one that dosen't say a word ever! But I am assured she can speak as my friend has heard her a couple of times! And one that whinnies like a baby squealing and burps quite a lot too which is a very strange sound and he wibbles which is his cross between a neigh and a whicker!

My stallion is embarrassingly loud at times....he screams his head off whenever he hears me or the car coming and like to 'talk' to Angel next door through the wall in little whickers and whinnies, very cute! he always comes out of his stable yelling his head off too, looking for his wives. Have a few very loud ones, I have found it quite amusing to show people how much my horses 'love' me by standing at the gate and shouting them, usually greeted by lots of screaming and cantering up to the gate....I neglect to tell people that actually they are just waiting for thier tea....
