Hi, Vanda
I am reaping the results of many falls over a good many years. I am very stiff in the back and also have a knee which was damaged when a horse fell on me when I was about 17 and is beginning to bother me. I loosen up when mobile but am so much heavier and stiffer than when younger. I visit an osteopath regularly and that seems to help as does taking Cortaflex.
I had a nasty accident about 16 months ago and have had a struggle to get back to riding at all and currently (before a few recent eye ops) manage about 45 mins to 1 hour of very gentle riding.

Hi Vanda....dunno if I'd be any use?
About 5 years ago I fell off and landed on my head, shattered the top disc in my neck, dislocated the 2 vertabrae either side of it and did a bit of damage to my spinal cord (only minor but enough for temporary loss af a lot of movement)
After about 3 years of no riding at all (plus physio et al) I started the occasional ride here and there, and rode my little Shetland once a week.....A year ago I got Dan and have been getting back to riding fitness...doing mainly dressage schooling with some jumping here and there.
I have confidence issues! &have suffered a lot of back pain whilst getting my fitness back...I'm getting there but the nerves are holding me back quite a lot. I do suffer from a lot of back pain after I've ridden a lot, lower back pain....I got a lot of lower back pain after my accident.
I do find it very hard to relax through my shoulders, I tend to tense and scrunch my upper body up a lot which is really annoying!
Am I any use?

hi, dont know if I am any use!! Have osteoarthritis in both hips left worse than right and because of this need a fairly narrow horse (unfortunately I own a mare who is xxx-wide! plus a gelding who is med/wide) Still have to keep going. My hip is getting stiffer and stiffer this Winter and am on anti-inflammatories from GP. The joys of getting older!!

Vanda, I am left wonky after an RTA when I fractured my femur aged 17. Also have a dodgy knee after falling off cross country. Can't seem to get properly level. Doesn't help that my horse is slightly wonky too!!

I too had an RTA a few years ago and am wonky one side which in turn has affected Sula slightly, I had a Chiropractor out to her who picked up on my injuries reflecting on Sula, all sorted now though and I have regular reflexology which has helped me loads

I had a hip operation 2 years ago as i have a thing called PROTRUSIO which is basically deep sockets, they rotated my left socket so the top of the femur had a fresh surface to wear on. I had some nerve damage after the op. and and over the last 3 years that has slowly improved. Some muscle has not come back(yet?) so i have a weak left leg. I ride as much as possible (good safe horse) and can now do sponsored rides and hunt rides quite easily, the more i can do on a ride , the better i feel, jumping is fine although 2'6" is my limit now for safetys sake. Recovery time after dismounting is about 15 mins. I started riding again 6 months after the op. and was more comfy riding than walking. I cannot school as it is too painful (especially circles) and takes meabout two days to get over it!!! (feel pain in the groin and inner leg bit)
