Hard question, my answer?
My answer is trundle round a 10 acre field in the pitch black without your torch (forgot it) looking for a jet black pony, find her in top corner of field, ponder for a while on long troop back across field, give mare a cuddle and ask her to wait a minute........then vault on quietly (more of a haul and scramble!) and ask her to find the way back to the stables.....poop yourself mightily as not ridden bareback and bridleless for long enough for me not to even remember the last time! Whisper to pony all the way back down the 10 acre and up the 4 acre and hold onto large clump of mane whilst telling yourself, tis easy whilst heart beats a trendy tattoo on ribcage !! ;D ;D
Jumping on without any tack whatsoever I tell myself it's for kids and teenagers. But what a lovely experience, she tiptoed across the field finding her way in the dark down a hill, thru the gate and up the other side of the hill with me just telling her to 'go to bed'. I think I fell in 'pony love' with her last nite. Ahhhhh.......... ;D ;D

Anna, my heart was in my mouth and I cannot believe I did it, used to jump on tackless all the time when I was younger and I am always encouraging my daughter to ride about on her pony without tack but usually make an excuse for me not to do it as well !! But now? Well guess whose not gonna be trooping across the fields anymore? Yip - me !! Bless her cottons, she even turned around and gave me a leg rub halfway down the field, calm as anything, goes without saying, she had extra carrots last night for tea!

I had such a good relationship with me first horse that I used to hack her out in a head collar (no reins - I figured I could always lean forward and grap the head piece in an emergency!) We'd go out for hours like that - would have good canters an even jump the odd log or gate.
She died eight years ago when I was 22. I honestly thought that everyone had that kind of relationship with their horse and it's what I'm working towards with Cali!
