Hello, this is my first post, so hope this is the kind of thing it is ok to ask about.
I have owned my 13 year old mare since she was age 2. I have done all of the IH foundation and associated courses and backed her with these methods have always approached all problems and just general horse life with these methods. We have a strong bond. She is a good girl but can be dominant on the ground if allowed and is certainly dominant with other horses.
I now have a 3 week old baby and 2 yr old son, so have put my mare out on loan to a lovely lady, for the next couple of years. The loaner has recently told me that my mare is sniffing her and then squealing/grunting in an almost stallion like way that is really unsettling the loaner. I have seen her do this with other horses but not people before. Does anyone have any kind of explanation and any advice on how to get her to stop?
She is on the same yard as I kept her but in a different stable location that has more horses around her than previously. She is turned in a paddock daily with horses on either side but not in with her at the moment as she is very mareish with others and had just fully recovered from injury.
I think I will do a few sessions with the loaner and my mare in the school with some groundwork activities. This may help them to bond.
Thanks in advance for any other helpful suggestions.
Kerry x
