Hi there, I've recently joined IH after treating myself to a gorgeous Welsh cob x appaloosa yearling. I also own an 18yr old mare and am convinced that the methods and philosophy behind IH is the way forward! My youngster, Scout, is 15mths old and I've only had him for 2 weeks. He'd been halter trained and had had minimal human contact prior to me getting him, but not had experience of anything else. In the 2 wks here with me I've been getting him used to having his feet picked up, he's had a rug put on, and I've been taking him out for walks with my dog, introducing him to traffic, puddles and rivers, farm machinery and pigs! His previous owner taught him to walk behind her but I want to get him used to walking next to me. He's also been quite reluctant to leave my mare at the yard so it's been more like a 'drag' than a 'walk' at times! Could I get some advice about how best to teach him please? He has a regular headcollar at the moment but was thinking about getting a dually headcollar. Thanks in advance.
