Ta da! Juniper (Summerhouse Mayday) was delivered yesterday afternoon. She travelled remarkably well: 8 hours and hadn't even sweated up. She's on a yard with 3 other horses: my YO brought her welshie Dylan onto the yard as soon as Juniper arrived and they were friends straight away. Dylan was sharing his bucket of soaking hay and giving her flirty little nibbles. (He's in the background in the photo) She was a little reluctant to go into the stable, so we showed her Dylan going in and out first, then after tempting her in with carrots in a bucket, we had Dylan right outside with his head over the stable door, checking she was ok Very Happy Later she had a nice roll in the sand school and a couple of gentle trots round (nothing too energetic / hyper) - she has such a lovely smooth trot! She's going to be kept in today & tomorrow (apart from a stretch in the school) while she's wormed and then go out in a field alongside the others (Dylan, Magpie and Fabio). Be prepared for many, many photos and videos

We turned her out in the field beside the other three yesterday and then all in together today: she had climbed out of the stable to get to Dylan (bay gelding, top of the herd) on Saturday, so we thought she'd hurt herself more by climbing through the fence if the others disappeared over the brow of the hill than the argy-bargy of them all in together. None are shod.
We expected Magpie (black & white mare, bottom of the herd) to have a go at Juniper, since that's what she's done to other new herd members before, but it was interesting to see Dylan herd her away from the other two, since he'd been so flirty on the yard. J reacted appropriately to his behaviour and everyone grazed calmly when she was far enough away.
Fabio went over to the 'outcast' and was v. friendly (mutual grooming) but Dylan herded him back to Magpie and sent J away.
I did a test-catch and lead up the track earlier today, before they were all brought in as we thought she might not want to leave them but she came up to me straight away and seemed quite glad to be led away: "they've not been very friendly to me!"

Congratulations on the arrival of Juniper. I love the way she walked under the arch in the school, not going to need too much desensitisation! Hope the others accept her soon.
What work are you intending to do with her this year?

Hi Kafee, I'll be doing just the basics to start with: leading, foot handling, some basic desensitisation. Then graduating up to leading around the farm and practicing wearing reflective leg wraps and some bits of hi-viz before we go out onto local lanes and bridleways (we have to cross a short section of not-too-busy but fast country road to get to the quiet bits). I might also practice loading into the trailer so we can go on some little trips to local friend's yards as an introduction to going on pony adventures. I'll start leaning over: just while I'm grooming, standing on a block / similar beside her but I don't intend to start backing until towards the end of summer next year, with no proper riding until she's five and no jumping until later than that - I'm in no rush

VeronicaF and portiabuzzYou replied to my other thread, but I thought I'd give an update on this one, which has more info Juniper's doing very well: she's had all 4 feet trimmed now and has been very good having her feet handled. I've been doing little in-hand walks around the farm in preparation for going out and will be working on getting her used to hi-vis leg bands and a tail thing or quarter sheet, in case we get separated when out. I've just started introducing her to a roller, which she hasn't worried about at all. Here she is looking sleepy and shiny in the sunshine:
