Hello all!
It's been a while since I've posted as life is crazy as ever and I don't get online much but I really could do with some advice/reassurance - and I trust the opinions on here so much I thought I better come on and say hello!
I've managed with my horsey Honey the past two years since having my little girl/being pregnant, with a sharer and also my friend helping me out two days a week too and helping with costs... I've been a bit greedy it feels as I have me and two others all on 'team Honey' just now- but both financially and time wise it's been what's needed to allow me to keep her. It's been a rough ride trying to manage even still, generally I've been lucky with sharers but I did have one who wasn't great and set Honey back a lot incredibly quickly (just through lack of boundaries and a bit of an. Airy fairy approach to things which does not work well with Honey) but generally, even though she's been ridden by 3 people, amazingly, we are managing to progress!
After she was set back so much and got a bit scatty again, I almost never looked for a replacement sharer and I was seriously considering retiring her to some wee field somewhere as a companion as I felt it would be kinder than loaning her to someone knowing how quickly she can turn into an absolute nightmare in the wrong hands- and I was struggling financially and with my time... However by a bit of a twist of fate I found a new sharer who is exactly what Honey needs. Patient and kind but comsistent and firm. And now the three of us have been managing fine again. Honey is coming on and is always settled and I now have the time again in my days to spend some quality time with her and enjoy riding- plus I can actually afford her. She has so much potential and I've done so much soul searching but I really believe she's better off with me even if I'm only overseeing a whole team of others riding her an looking after her.. At least I'm keeping track of it all and cAn nip issues in the bud quickly as they arise (usually cos I've had them ALL before)!
SO the issue now is my friend who has been helping twice a week (she usually rides one o those days occasionally both- she also helps with costs a bit too) is really keen to get lessons on other horses and progress her riding further on better schooled horses. She loves hacking but has always hated the school and has always struggled a bit with honey. She's not massively in to NH but will humor me with it as she knows it's the way I've done stuff- however she's been unhappy for a while and although she loves honey to bits she wants extra time and money to progress her riding elsewhere- I totally understand this and I knew it was on the cards for quite some time. She's still really keen to ride honey once a week which I really want her to do and I don't want to have to ask anything monetary off her as she is my friend and she has helped me out loads.
Basically I'm thinking about getting another sharer to help with days/ money.
There are a few factors in play here: 1 I am just coping financially and never have money for lesson which I feel I really need to keep progressing with honey.
2: she gets super fat in summer and needs ridden daily, if my friend drops her days there would be 2 days a week is just be having to get friends to check her for me.
3: on the negative side I'm worried having 4 different people riding her each week is too many, I don't want her to get confused and I also feel like I'm taking the piss a bit trying to keep a horse that needs the help of all these people, part of me wondered if she'd be better off with just one person!
What do others think... Is it a rediclious idea!?
Currently i do 2days riding, 1 visiting with my daughter. And the two others do 2 each.
If I got someone else we'd do 2,2,2 and 1 and I'd just keep track of insuring she gets rest days etc (there's always someone can't be bothered riding on their day)
Sorry it's a really long post! Ideas welcome x
