How sad but a reminder to us all. I was near my horse once when it kicked out - result is a metal plate in my arm as badly broken. Happened in an instance and a freak accident as 6" closer or further away it would have been no problem. We need to always treat them with respect and learn their body language.
On another note I've been thinking about getting a protective jacket as hearing horror stories (girl on yard had horse spook, she fell off and broke her back!) But they are over £400. Surely there must be some way they can reduce the price of safety equipment?? Many would struggle to pay out that sort of money and I know the argument is you shouldn't put a price on safety but being realistic.

So sad... and it struck a chord with me having been laid up this week after I got my foot trampled and I am nearly her age. Her family must be devastated my thoughts are with them.

Very sad. I was turning my own horse iut yesterday afternoon, walking across the school when she went up out of nowhere and for no real reason, thankfully for some odd reason I had decided to put my hat on before turning her out.

You think that you are safe, you know your horses and accidents happen to other people freakish or negligent I took feeds up to two in the field one horse t'other short term loan, put bucket down in front of my boy the loan pony went behind me, my lads head came up so fast he hit my cheek bone knocked me over, spun me round and just plain literally knocked me for six! Well probably 12 or 18 the blooming force of it!!! Never even crossed my mind that that could ever happen. Fortunately nothing broken just a WOWZER black eye and swelling on my cheekbone. That was 4/5 months ago........ The area is still tender and my eye hasn't quite settled down :0( Always try to think ahead, Risk Assessment sounds cliche but it could save a bad injury or in the extreme even a life.......

I had a scare with a friends livery shire. I would be dead had the horse not kicked the fence post. One hind leg whistled past my ear the other hit the post thank god. Hat wouldn't have mad a difference it would have planted me in the face. Proper knocked me and I'm so glad of my guardian angel that day. It's so tragic these accidents very very sad.
