First day of Bootcamp for Sonny again. 7 year old Welsh D who has been 4 times now for professional training and still gets so worked up when presented with anything new, you would thik his brain was about to pop. Trainer " Is he Arab" Me "No" Trainer "Has he never been lunged Me"Yes, and he is always like that" Good start me thinks! Am I ever going to be able to take him to a show without having a mad slinky on the end of a rope!

Hmm... A 7 year old that still doesn't behave on the lunge would be a no no for me, that needs sorting out!! It is a case of leadership. Now of course some horses will always like to express themselves on the lunge more so than others but if that happens with one of mine they come right back to walk and start again.
What training are you giving the horse in between these professional sessions? Obviously I don't know you or your horse or your level of skill but it might be time to re look at what you do at home, what improvements you can make yourself and what improvements you can make with your trainer, having to keep sending a horse away suggests things are not currently working as well as they could be

Rather than sending your boy away, why not find your nearest IHRA and ask him or her to come to you, and work with you and your horse together? RA's are incredibly good at spotting partnership problems and finding solutions.

If it's taken 4 boot camp sessions and he still hasn't learned to lunge calmly there's a problem. Either the person teaching him isn't using a language he understands or he's in pain and can't do what is being asked of him.
