I've started my 3 yr old cob.we hacked out along quiet he wood ,she loved it her companion went off a different way ,she wasn't fussed.even when she went " soldid" I said get on & she went on & found her friend. I have been calm so far.so when I got left behind on a place we hadn't been for a while I wasn't fussed.I was leading her as she was scared of a big dog\ windy day! She go wound up! So I got on to catch up we trotted, then cantered! Bucked head between knees! Good thing i held a bit of mane. But was controlable after that I was pleased with her.& thought I can't believe I just did that. The only thing I am sad for.she was skittery ,so made me tense ,so I think she lost confidence with me..:-( :-(

Yikes - glad you're okay. No harm at all on going back a few steps taking time to consolidate the early lesson and reestablish trust and rapport. What part of the country are you in? Is there an RA in your area who could help?

Well done for coping with the bucky canter! It happens with youngsters, especially on windy days and with spooky things like large dogs.
She is very young, so there is no harm at all in going back a step or two, in fact she would probably benefit from more ground work - remember you want to make it easy for her to do the right thing, and it will be difficult for her to hack out quietly on a wild and windy winter day, so rather than go out and struggle with bad weather or spooky events, lead out instead or do some ground work exercises. Have you got a copy of Perfect Manners? It has some great exercises which are enjoyable to do and will increase your mutual confidence.
