I don't do this often, in fact I don't think I have done this before, but rant needed!!. 8 weeks ago I dislocated my shoulder from a fall, unfortunately I don't seem to do things by halfs, this was a full dislocation leaving the humerus lodged against my rib cage = 20ml morphine!. Weekly physio, endless sleepless nights, and still can't even pick up an empty wheel barrow, can't drive, put a head collar on etc.. etc.. However, I can type one handed & work is within walking distance. I was originally told you need 3+ dislocations before an operation is considered, and apparently they get less painful the more you have (not much consolation!) Now (without further dislocations) I am booked in for scans with a view to an operation. Either way, I know the local hospital will look after me & do whats best, and the movement range has improved ten fold with the physio, but it all still hurts and stiffens in-between each physio session I do. Sorry, just feeling fed up with it at the moment, and a tad sorry for myself, was planning on doing the final 3rd of the New Forest P2P on boxing day being on my veteran - our local area this year (big advantage) . If anyone has experience I would love some honest realistic advice/stories. I know this is the Summer written off for me. Oh and both ponies and me putting ample (too much) weight on! Rant finished, thank you for reading xx

Oh Jen, i'm so sorry, that is just the utter pits for you. 8 weeks already, that is just so grim. I have no experience of this type of injury I'm afraid, so no help whatsoever - but just sending extremely gentle (((hugs)))) and sympathy. Really hope you're back in the saddle for your Boxing Day burn-up. xx

Sorry to hear this. 8 weeks is along time to be in pain. Chin up x
My friend dislocated her knee & didn't really adhere to physio & medical advice on resting it or the exercises to get the strength back. She went on to dislocate it again within 8 months and the recovery was way longer. This time thankfully she did listen & followed it to a T. *frantically touching wood* it hasn't happened since. So from that I would listen to the experts, they know best even if it seems tedious. Oh & she refused the surgery!

Thanks for your kind words. Lol, so do I - but need to be averaging 6mph over 15 miles now, with a very gradual increase in the roughness and steepness of terrain working to 8.5mph over 15 miles by October, the only think that's increasing on me & little Joey is our waist lines I am being well behaved and following the physio exercises and advice, together with my Husband and friends keeping me on the straight and narrow! On the plus side, we moved house in November 2013 so I get to enjoy our new garden, discovering all the flowers as they come through and our ponies paddock is next to our garden, so at least I can see them with ease. My original goal was to be able to stack hay bales by November, may not achieve it that quickly, but here's hoping. The worst thing of all, I am now allowed to do housework

Sometimes you do just need to vent . Try not to rush things too much - it'll make it pass quicker if you don't do things and end up setting yourself back. Hope it's a nice summer so you can at least do permitted activities outdoors. x

Jen have a [[[[[[[[[[hug]]]]]]]]]]].............I'm nearly 12 weeeks into a spiral fracture of the right humerus ( for that read well adn truly buggered and broken) have only just been allowed to sleep without the arm brace and dispense with a sling! Physio (read torturers) can do some housework, but have been employing a cleaning lady a few hours a week (luxury) which my mum and brothers have very kindly paid for and have got a gardener to sort the garden out.........feel really guilty asking daughter and son in law to start doing housework and garden when they have been at work all day get well soon xxxx

My sympathies to you. Although I've not dislocated anything in the past, I have had a series of fairly major injuries (fractured pelvis, wrecked patella tendon, broken leg) which have rendered me immobile for weeks on end. Although my hospital treatment was fab, the NHS physiotherapy was just massively insufficient to regain strength and mobility. If you are not already doing so, I'd really recommend that you get assessed by a private physio and invest as much money as you can afford in as many physio sessions as possible. After my knee injury, I endured 18 months of rehab where I went to a specialist remedial sports trainer twice a week. It was a)bl***y expensive and b) agonising, but boy was it worth it. The consultant who operated on me stressed that I would only get 50% flexion back in the knee, and he could not believe his eyes when he saw me for the last time, with 100% flexion and full mobility and strength. 4 years on and my left knee is, if anything, stronger than my right one, and I have no stiffness or pain.
You are a sportsperson and athlete, and should be looking to work with someone who understands how sports people operate, as we are vastly different from people who do not take sports seriously, and will take a lot of pain and punishment in order to regain fitness.
