So my husband and I did pancake day yesterday. Mainly because I got the date wrong in the first place so I have now decided my lent starts today. I have also come to the decision that I give up on too much and so it would be better if I didn't 'give up' as such. So I am not giving up, I am going to DO. I am going to get slimmer. I am going to get fitter. I am going to get healthier. The plan is that I like the results so much that I continue it further than lent. This is all brilliant but here is the problem. I'm fundamentally lazy. I lack any motivation even though I want to get back to the size I was before I got married That's a loss of 4 1/2 stone. Oops. Contentment kinda sucks. So, I am putting it on here. I've been on my scales this morning and I'm putting it on here. I'm going to weigh myself once a week and I'll put the reading on here. I figured if I do that then I'm going to want to keep at it because it won't just being me knowing that I suck Does anyone else want to do this? Weight 26/02/14: 14 st 8 lbs

What a great outlook Chantrelle, love your positivity! I don't possess a set of scales, and haven't a clue what I weigh, I'm afraid. I just go by which jeans I can get into (or not!) to decide whether I'm ok - or not. Doing really well just now, but through no forward diet planning at all - just being obliged to take ghastly horrible loathsome antibiotics - for ten days. For a tooth infection. And as a result I'm living on porridge, scrambled eggs, dry toast and plain yogurt. I feel like death overheated, and I can now get into my 'thinner' jeans. Hooray. Not.

Im on a diet now (tried the NHS weight management programme last year and failed miserably) I've put a few cooking idea's up on your Husband thread.. but yes any support is fine by me im currently 18st 8lbs I would like to lose this extra me in order to get on a horse again Incidently they say walking is the best exercise... (i disagree, Im a dog walker and walking is pants lol ) but I also go swimming atleast once a week. Using weights, will tone your muscles up, as muscle is denser than fat you will seem to put weight on.. you're not really you just have more muscle than you do fat.. I'd lay off the weights a while, til your weight starts to disperse then use the machines like the treadmill, step, cross trainer, bike and rowing. I'd love to use them, but my joints don't allow it

Love the positivity! I did the Couch to 5k a while back and lost about 1.5 stones and a dress size without changing my diet. I downloaded the NHS C25k podcast (free) and listened to it. I don't DO running and have dodgy knees but this way introduces it slowly and it really isn't hard, which I think helps with motivation. Do it 3 times a week and watch the weight fall off Another thing is, don't get too worried about what the scales say, aim to feel more healthy and wear smaller clothes Something else to consider is diet and how it affects you. Have a good read of the Harcombe diet and forums, I think there is some good stuff to take from it. The main ones being; reducing your cravings and eating real food. Good luck!

I'd quite like to join in too
I'm 76 kg and would like to no less than 66 kg, so that's 10kg of blubber that needs to go!
I'm going to start the day after Shrove tuesday (so I can have pancakes!)
I've just downloaded the couch 2 5k that Hannah mentions so I'm going to give that a whirl.
Good luck everyone.

Exercise!!!! The motivation to lose weight is great, and full marks for dieting. But add exercise too and double-whammy on the weight loss front. PLUS you get all the additional benefits from exercise: de-stressing, feel-good hormones (nothing like the runner's high), improved fitness.
Find something you like and exercise becomes something you look forward to. For me, it's running, military fitness and yoga. For you, it might be cycling, swimming, zumba!!!

What military fitness do you do? Are you in the forces? X It's a circuit class run by a former royal marine turned Personal Trainer. There are lots of these "bootcamp" style classes around. If you google it, you may find one in your area.
