So I'm wearing a hideous granny shoe on one foot, big black thing held on with Velcro, deeply unattractive but I guess functional. I can get round the house ok on my crutches, but as I can't put any weight on one foot it's difficult (Ok, impossible) to stand in the shower, and not exactly safe to try and get in and out of the bath. So, I have just taken delivery of a shower stool. Yuk. I feel about 100 years old!

hugs...
I have a bath seat (sits across the sides of the bath) again not a good look to visitors but functional if you don't want to smell.
I don't know what you've had done, but I do remember you saying you'd have to have more surgery... it will get better and you will get yer wellies on once more.. but until then, you have friends on here and your patience will be sorely tested....

Much sympathy, Ruth - I had a hip done at the beginning of Dec and it's so much better - pain free - but my other hip is now needing attention and walking getting hard again. It does make everything SUCH hard work, doesn't it? I felt quite ill this morning. Hugs to you.

Oh Liz, I really shouldn't moan, you are so much worse off than me! I've only had a bone in my foot rebroken and pinned - it had been broken and mended crooked so was causing a lot of pain. Unfortunately it means that I'm not allowed to be weight bearing for a few weeks, but in a couple of months it will be pretty much back to normal. There's just something so geriatric about the horrible white plastic shower stool, it really got to me! Maybe I should design and market a line of funky ones for those of us who need a bit of help but are not yet ready to sink into a care home!
I'm coming to the conclusion that orthopaedic surgeons are slightly sadistic by nature. Mine said to me, while a wolf like smile on his face, "I'm not too worried about you doing too much. It will be self limiting. Even with your pain threshold I'm confident you'll want to sit down with your foot up." Oh, how right he was!

Ruth it doesn't sound fun but hopefully none of those things are going to be a permanent fixture in your life for some years

As I sat in his dentist's chair with my jaw pinned open whilst he used a large pair of pliers to pull out the wires of my jaw brace: one by one, slowly and agonisingly pulling them between my teeth and through my gums, without an anaesthetic, he smiled sweetly and said "And this is the point when most patients decide to give up horse riding." Gah, gah, gah, gah, splutter was all I could say in response... Poor you though, but hopefully you'll be back on two feet - and horseback - by the time Spring arrives.

I think you should dress the boot up as something different or a new theme every day, take a photo and post it on the DG my friend had a tumour surgery on her face recently and did it with the canula in her hand (it made its way through flower power, disco mania and several animal incarnations) after that came out after a few days, she started doing it with her tea cup. Stopped her climbing the walls and got some really good banter going on Facebook.

Hi guys, thanks for the kind messages. Chest infection is improving, which is what was really making me feel I'll. Foot is just what it is, effectively a broken bone which will heal in a few weeks, and is just a minor inconvenience.
