I have had it on and off for years and my lifestyle is anything but sedentary - it would be worst when I was on my feet all day in fact. The doctors usually give painkillers and some will offer a cortisone injection (no thankyou), but the last time 3 years ago I was referred to the podiatrist and she made insoles on the spot which I wore for about 6 months and have not needed since.

I had this condition to the point where I could hardly drive for the pain. One doctor wanted to give me meloxicam on permanent basis so I saw another doctor who referred me to podiatrist who customised insoles for me. I still wear insoles at work and have been foot pain free for years. I don't have a remotely sedentary lifestyle either.

He says he saw a podiatrist who made him some insoles, and a physiotherapist who gave him some exercises stretch the fascia. He also invented some exercises of his own which he did before he got out of bed, to stretch the fascia which helped. He also said don't walk on tip toes, although it relieves the pain, it makes it worse in the long run. Correct posture is important, but I expect that's not easy for you all the time, which is probably why you've got plantar fasciaitis. (I don't know how to spell it either!)
Good luck, the insoles are a big help. They seem to be in fashion at the moment.

You might not have plantar fasciitis then - perhaps dropped metatarsals which cause the toe pain and can also be cured with insoles.

I can't understand why your doc referred you to a surgeon and not a specialised podiatrist.... I've also had this condition mostly on, than off.
Insoles should help, but stretching exersices will also help too, and a frozen bottle of water is so relieving too..
Plantar faciitis is basically an inflamation of the plantar tendon that runs along the sole of your foot. If it goes on long enough it will also thicken, causing extreme pain, when walking. It can sometimes feel like walking over hot coal or needles.. I had the injection Nov 2012 and while it did work, the pain returned a year later, I was then referred to a podiatrist, who said that while the injection can work, the needle would need to be inserted in the sole of the foot which is not a good place to put it (don't I know it) he suggested some stretching exersices, and it's been fine since.
I also have an insole, but I also have toe pain which is currently being caused by a lump we don't know what it is yet.. (might be scar tissue from previous surgery) so the insole is for that too... back to Pod in March x

Who knows anything with our doctors here. To be fair the doc i saw is the one that told me i had fibro so i know he is one of the better. He is retired but comes in once a month or so i like him. I had to tell him i had hypermobilty though.... I dont think doctors read or write up notes sometimes (rolls eyes)

PB some people can have it once, not need treatment and never have it again... the rest suffer for years and never really get rid of it
