We are looking to move house this year and will take with us our two 10 year old cats. We have had them since they were nearly two and they have lived in our home all their lives. One is a bit of a free spirit and sometimes in the summer will spent a week at a time out and about. He also hates being locked in and can get quite stressed and can spray (stress agrivates his cystitis). He needs quite a lot of reassuring and cuddles to settle in the evening. The other cat is quite happy and hangs around the house almost all day and will only pop out into the garden if it is sunny to sunbathe!.
I am wondering what is the best thing to do when we do find a house and move. I was thinking of putting them into the cattery whilst we move and have all the furtniture set up when they arrive with their beds/litter tray etc untouched from the old house. I was also going to get some of those plugins that help them relax when we do bring them to the new home. How long should I keep them in for? Any ideas of how I keep the stressed boy relaxed? When we go on holiday and collect him from the cattery he wants to go out immediately (and we do let him out) and will not relax until he can go out. He will pace constantly and meow continually.
Any ideas? I hate seeing him stressed and am not sure how he will cope with the move!. The new home should be at least 5 miles away from the old one so hopefully he won't try and return to his favourite hunting grounds (although with him I would not rule it out!). Anyone had any experience of this sort of thing?
