been one of those days...............found a leak the other day, far side of the chimney breast, turns out its the magni pump in the old airing cupboard, it helps apparently to 'clean' the water as it circulates round the heating system thus cleaning out all the gunk and stuff making the central heating run more efficiently ........... thats gas engineer speak........well the pump failed and we had to have a new one fitted...........sooooooooo £200 plus VAT later this afternoon we now have a central heating system that works again........... BUT I also have a ruined lounge carpet thats practically brand new, and the leather sofa in the corner is also wet underneath, wallpaper thats ruined as well, and the one I used is now out of production so the whole room will have to be redone, so that means getting a decorator in........insurance assessor out on Monday to see the damage mnd 'see what we can sort out' in his words...........what a lovely start to the year!

I know that feeling! We're missing half a bedroom ceiling because the roof is leaking and a heating pipe was leaking which was hidden behind the tanks in an inaccessible part of the loft, we could only see it after the ceiling came down! We'll be having half the roof off in 2-3 weeks time, just waiting for the quotes.

Hiscox insurance can reccommend them very good very efficient and they pay the money straight into your bank account if under £2000.
When we had the fire in 2005 they were fantastic with us, sympathetic and practical at the same time, found alternative housing sorted pets kennels out straight away, emergency funds for new clothing etc, and got it all sorted out, supervised the building work and then put everything back again, they never make afuss or make things complicated, they say what they can and cannot do and they just get on with the job
