How long until you were completely fixed?
Which to me means; a) no more pain b) full(ish) movement range
Thanks in advance!

Oh dear ouch. Never broken shoulder but I have ripped nerves and ligaments in shoulder when I god dragged.. Horrible.. I was told a fracture would have been quicker but hate to say it took a long time and I still don't trust it 100%, if I'd to lead a tricky one I'll still switch to my other arm.. It happened 4+ years ago.. But, I don't heal well so maybe just me..

Well obviously it depends what/ how you've broken it and what the surgeon has done (or not) to fix it. You need to ask them really. I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news but from what I've seen it's very painful and a slow recovery.
I've known 3 people break their shoulder all in the last 3 years and all had around 4-6 months off work, they were in pain for most of that time. My Mum had to take painkillers for longer than she would have chosen to because the physio she had to do was painful and the painkillers were essential to letting her do it without her muscles tensing against the pain. All three of them have restricted movement - none can lift their arm above shoulder height. One of them can't lift her arm much more than waist height without using her other hand to lift it, but they are all now pain free.

It depends on the break and what you broke...
Never had a broken shoulder, but hip/femur were both pretty painful for weeks, and both times I was on crutches for weeks....
also range movement will come after physiotherapy...

Thank you all The injury happened in May so 9months ago, no surgery it had to heal itself. Was discharged from Physio in September. Movement range is good. But!! It just seems to be quite painful at times now after a period of not hurting (if that makes sense?) am concerned but don't want to take painkillers (as it's not constant pain more of a sharp shooting pain) and not sure it's worth bothering the doctor? Just not sure what is normal

If it was my shoulder I'd be back to the doctor. After my ligament damage I cannot lift that arm above arm out horizontal, without force from other arm, if I do it's painful, I did do the physio recommended by the hospital etc but now realised for my line of work I should have had much more physio etc It's a curse not having full use back. For me it was 3 months before I could even hold a light broom, we had to employ someone to do the horses, it was 6 months before I was comfortable to hold reins but only on a quiet pony for the first while for fear of being pulled and even when I was back riding, my shoulder would ache often,. I regret not doing more at the early days...

Could the cold weather be making muscles tense up etc? I had that problem too, almost start a spasm if I didn't keep warm enough while it was healing, but I'd no broken bones..

I'd be inclined to agree with kizi.. Get back to GP if only for reassurance, take painkillers when it's bad, and maybe some form of human cortaflex. I get aches and pains in my busted femur where all the metal work is, & used to get pain in my knee when I had arthritis. Arthritis can set in into broken bones and it's the cold that sets it off x

I smashed my elbow a few years ago. It was really only after I started physio Pilates this year that it really felt fixed and stronger. It also helped sort out the compensations for old injuries/ natural one sidedness etc.

Oh well it seems it's all normal!!! Just the nerves repairing themselves (which take much longer than bones!!) Just have to grin and bear it!! Thank you for thinking of me though!! Sorry not been online for a few days DDx
