Saw my consultant last night, and the conclusion is that I now need surgery on my foot to correct a bunionette which we think was caused when Bali trod on me and broke my foot. 5 years ago I had to have ligament reconstruction in my wrist which put me in plaster for 3 months and a wrist brace for another three. Two years ago I ruptured three ligaments in my knee and had to have the PCL removed as it was beyond repair. I couldn't ride for about three months. And now this. At least another two months off.
Great!
Apart from how to manage all the animals, the biggest problem is the confidence dip. Every time I can't ride for a while I have to start from the beginning rebuilding my confidence. Particularly after surgery, because you are always a bit protective of yourself.
Going skiing early Feb (with lots of painkillers!) so having surgery after that.
Sorry, just a moan. I'm lucky to be able to get these things sorted, so should really be grateful and not complaining.

So sorry to hear that. It must be so frustrating. Hope you're enjoying your riding now though?

Aw, thanks for the hugs, guys. Feels good.,
And yes, Laddiesmum, Bali and I are both really enjoying our riding at the moment, which is why it's so frustrating knowing that we'll be out of action for so long. But at least I should get it all over and done with early in the year, and be back on board for the summer.

It's good to know they can actually do surgery that should make it better in the long run. While you are laid up after the surgery, why don't you see if you could get a subscription to Monty's online university? Might put you in a more positive mindset and help you feel empowered rather than starting to anticipate feeling a lack of confidence.

I'm now feeling very pleased that I've agreed to have the surgery! After about six months of foot being a bit annoying most of the time and only really painful when I exercise, it's now decided to up the ante, and is hurting all the time! A lot. So, surgery booked for 12th February, and I'm already planning my Winter Olympics viewing while I recuperate!
Still haven't got anyone to look after the horses when I can't walk, but I'm working on it.
Slightly madly, we're going skiing the week before the op, booked long before the problem got so bad. However, I know I can ski through quite a lot of discomfort, as I ruptured 3 knee ligaments on day 2 of an 11 day skiing holiday, strapped up my knee, and carried on skiing. Couldn't go off piste, obviously, but managed ok on piste! Yes, I know it's a bit lunatic, but my surgeon assures me that I can't make my foot any worse, and it's up to me how much pain I want to put up with! And then he'll fix it when we get back.

The holiday will give you some lovely memories while you're recovering, reassuring to know you can't make it any worse too, maybe get some strongish painkillers before hand and wear a hat too, superman was only a movie
