Had a call from friends this morning asking for help as their horse was down and couldn't get up. Vet came, treated for suspected colic but also took bloods as was concerned about muscle damage and other issues. Several of us spent most of day trying to prop him up with straw bales and support him, but with no success. Bloods normal, vet came back, tried to move him up but he had no strength or coordination in his body. Vet suspected acute neurological condition or mycotoxins, no hope of saving him so he was pts this afternoon. Poor boy he was only 5 years old, and the horse my friends had been waiting for. Was there with them until he went, then had to cover him over with tarpaulin as he can't be collected for post mortem until tomorrow. Feel so awful for them, and it brings back all the memories of Norman's illness too Rest well Tigger, and run free with all your friends at Rainbow Bridge xxx

Oh that's awful. RIP Tigger, say hello to my friends horse, Diamond, who was PTS yesterday at 18, weirdly he had a similar nerve problem and it was getting worse, and it had ended his showjumping career, and he was/starting to struggle, and at 16.2, he was a big lad.

Ah, that is really sad, and so young. What a shame, I wonder what the problem was.

Oh how awful. So sorry, dalesfan, after your own tragedy with Norman. I am sure you were a great comfort to your friends and the horse though.
