What colour would you get if you cross a Palomino with a grey?

Well, I don't know anything about the genetic technicalities, but years ago I bought two very cheap colt foals from their very disappointed breeder - she'd put her two palomino Cob mares to a nice dapple grey TB stallion, and got one bright bay with four whites and one roan which ended up grey. They both made very nice Pony Club/hunting/ all-rounder types, just not palomino!

The palomino carries the cream gene and chestnut so that is quite straight forward. But they grey could carry absolutely anything underneath the grey so unless you know what colour it was born or have it tested you should not really put it to a palomino unless you want a blue eyes cream (perlino or cremello). Whilst they are great for guaranteeing a dilute colour when put to plain colours in their own right they are not very practical or pretty. What breeds are they both? That could help narrow down some of your possible outcomes a little.

No expert.. One will come along.. But grey is not a colour like the others any colour can turn grey if the grey gene is there, there's at least a 50% chance foal will grey out. What colour it's born could vary (don't quote me) depending on the colour the grey parent was when born or what percentage grey gene they carry... Basically there's a good chance you get grey..

Just thinking back - it was, erm, twenty years since I bought these colts.... and the grey TB stallion was by Ela Mana Mou which was a bright bay. In fact the bay colt was very like him, only pony-sized.

My grey connie mare had a buck skin foal... He could still grey out but I so hope not.. His daddy was buck skin as was granny and although my mares passport says grey she was born bay, so dilute gene on bay base = buckskin foal that could go grey.. Took me a long time to get my head around that! In school when we studied human genetics my biology teacher told me skip that part! I just couldn't get a handle on it!

Have a good poke about in the roots of his tail. Are there any silver hairs in it or is it black? Having a non grey parent you are in with a chance as long as the grey was not homozygous for grey. Greys that are heterozygous for grey tend to grey out slower than greys that are homozygous for grey so as it is impossible for him to be homozygous for grey he could grey out very slowly over quite a few years. Of course just for added interest they dont stick to this rule, not all of them anyway

Not sure what colour mum was born but she is a grey, i put her to a liver chestnut stallion and she produced a bright chestnut filly, no sign of any grey coming through on the filly yet. Stallion is welsh x tb, mare is id x tb Just looking at potential stallions for my mare this year.

He has silver in his mane but not turning grey, hes always had it, its more like his coat colour, I was told its called frosting hehe I don't really mind if he goes grey, I'll love him anyway.. I think his pic is down there somewhere. Can't see on mobile app.. His mane and tail hair is jet black still..!
