I am in Gloucestershire, we have a fair ammount of snow. I have three horses on a two acre field , normally in a larger field , the small field is nearer to the house and hay stores, so not so far to carry hay etc.
1 is a 16 yr old big h/w cob, 1 is a 14.1hh 16 year old cob the other is an 18 yr old polo pony. Horses all living out and rugged. Getting through 2 plus bales a day .
Bit concerned that my small cob will actually be gaining weight in this snowey weather! I can't cut down the hay as the other two need it.Small cob normally lives in field on her own . but horses all together due to weather.
Am I worrying to much. I get a bit obcessed about their weight and Laminitis issues.
What do you think?

I've got a 15.3 ISH, a 15.3 arab and a 14. arab welsh cross. they are on about 3 acres but the snow is now about 6' deep and they don't appear to be making any effort to dig for grass. I put less than a bale out last night spread between hay nets and there was still some left this morning. This morning I shared about 1.5 bales between 9 nets and threw a couple of slices on the snow, I put 4 of the nets out this morning and there were still two untouched when we went down this afternoon. They are starting the night with 8 haynets plus a large builders bag and 4 nets of straw. I'll be surprised if there isn't still some hay left and I imagine all the straw nets will still be full but it's there just in case. The arabs are rugged and have two smallish feeds a day, the ISH isn't rugged and gets one tiny feed though this afternoon I did give her another small feed of pony nuts.

Ours that are out 24/7 have only just started to get hay since the snow came on Friday, they get 1kg of hard feed a day and 2 medium nets each and they are not quite finishing the hay. If they polish it off quicker they will get a bit more, but over here although there is snow cover it is only a couple of degrees below freezing so the cold is not really an issue.

I've soaked and put out about .75 of a bale twice a day between 7 ponies on 10 acres, (4 x 14/14.2hh, 1 x 11hh shetland, 2 x 12hh foals), and they hadn't finished this mornings hay, and weren't particularly hungry this evening. There is still quite a lot of old long grass which they are digging for.

I'm giving about a bale and a half between two of them each day at the moment. Mine aren't making any effort to dig for grass but that's probably because the field is mostly just mud under the snow. When the snow is gone it'll be reduced again as both are nice and slim and I want them to stay that way.

I have been giving 3 bales between 5 horses on 6 acres with some grass under snow per day, only gave them 2 today though as been leaving some! I think it is better to give too much than too little in this weather
