Some of you may have seen this already as it's a few years old, but I came across the link on Facebook today. Richard Spooner in 2002. A great example of riding skill, quick reactions and common sense. www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtv2sK6jbp4

Superb, just goes to show, it's the riders job to set up a good balanced canter, it's your horses job to jump, the rider just needs to stay quiet and balanced so if it goes wrong, the horse can sort itself out as your not in his way!!

fabulous much nicer than all that hauling around. We used to practice without reins or stirrups the horses would always jump well

Show's what a good relationship he has with his horse, but even so: phew!!! What a good horse to sort himself out and carry on.

that was amazing!! incredibly well ridden and what a clever horsey!!
i've seen so many horses and riders go down badly in those situations - it's great he trusted his horse enough to let him sort it out safely!

I once got the approach to a double so wrong I tried to pull the horse out of the second part and ended up with me hitting the deck and him continuing to jump it clear - I'd have been better doing what this guy did and leave the horse to sort it out!
