I'm organising some talks/demos for the local BHS group, obviously I will be asking the members what they want too. So what would you be interested in? Some of my ideas: independent equine nutritionist equine podiatrist horse agility worms, worming and egg counts bits and bitting Thanks

I wish I was a member of your local group! I'd be interested in all of those subjects Re demos - I went to a 'taster' day demo a few years ago. Suzanne Marshall RA did a section on IH, there was a dressage demo and a fascinating one on side saddle which I have always fancied having a go at. Each section lasted an hour or so, break in the middle for lunch and the demo givers stayed to answer questions/ hand out info sheets. What about a talk on lami/cushings/ EMS, subjects which seem to crop up frequently on forums?

Equine dentistry. Having read on here about how a horses teeth stop 'erupting' when they are in their early 20's, I'd like to know more about what that means, and if the treatment changes with the age of the horse. I've been using my friend's equine dentist for the past few years. Her old pony lost all his teeth and was on a sloppy diet for about a year before he was put down. He was only 23.
The dentist did a good job on Raffles' teeth in 2011, so good that he decided not to take anything off the following year, which, having read the bit about teeth stopping erupting has worried me. Raffles' is 24.

rj's idea of horsewatch/security etc is definitely something that I think most people would be interested in.

We had a talk here last year called 'you, your horse, insurance and the law' With speakers from law firm that specialised in equine cases (my partner) and an insurance broker here that deals in all equine related insurance. It was quite popular and those that missed it were interested to know if we were doing it again.. Just basic stuff people aren't sure of, towing stuff, transporting other peoples horses, livery risks, rules of the road even!!! We were also able to keep it to just €5 per person for hire of room/tea/coffee etc as it was in the solicitors and insurance companies interest for business.. But it was an info night not just to drum up business!!

Getting the leisure horse fit: What work I light, medium and hard and how to prepare your horse for it: I know it sounds really basic but I don't think people have any idea these days what it takes to get a horse fit, and what level of work their horse actually is doing. I hear so many people talking about there horse that's in hard work, as they have a lesson once a week, school once a week and hack out twice!! If people understood more about what type of work their horse was actually doing it might help with what they are feeding them. Feed a horse in light work for hard work is asking for trouble

Love the idea of a taster day! Thanks BJMM Good ideas folks, on looking at my notes, I had already thought of security advice and tack marking, definitely something I think people will be interested in. CM - talk to your instructor or PM me and I am happy to advise I agree that no-one understands the idea of light/hard work. kizi - sounds great, I just need to find someone to do it... Emma Louise - thanks for the link, I know Lisa does this but had forgotten Keep em coming folks Everyone will be welcome, I will put info in the Areas section on here plus maybe a pointer in General. If we have restricted numbers, BHS members will have priority booking but that won't be the case all the time.
