Thanks for including the petition in the title Megnum. The RSPCA has long been a corrupt society, and despite past accusations ( and proof) of some extremely dodgy ways of spending their benefactor's money, they have always seemed to come up smelling of roses It's time they were exposed IMHO.

What it clarified for me was that the RSPCA's definition of cruelty and suffering are totally outdated and ignorant. It seems to be totally linked to money, if you can afford a swanky stables and all the gadgets then your horses must be well cared for. I'm not sure why the abusive handling and riding, prolonged confinement, inappropriate over feeding, deprivation from equine company and many other things that are standard practice on competition and racing yards are not prosecuted for the awful and TRUE suffering which they cause? But a herd of horses living a near natural existence is suffering??? I think the horses would beg to differ lol!! Obviously the situation was not ideal, he needs to stop breeding and someone needs to help him tidy up a bit. But on the whole I expect they are a very contented herd of horses.
Just like everyone else has said, why waste money on the prosecution if the animals are truly your priority?
As for the handling, I guess I sort of expected it, but was still shocked by what a clueless embarrassment it was. There is no excuse for that level of ignorance and lack of training in this day and age! Why on earth don't they spend some of that money on training equine team leaders for each area? They should send them all to Sarah Weston or on our feral foal handling course ha ha!
We do, by the way, have a little Dartmoor mare at our charity who was seized by the RSPCA as part of a "neglect" case. I don't know anything about the circumstances of that. She has a brand so had clearly been on the moor breeding at some point, the RSPCA then tried to handle this untouched mare and when she started to kick out they decided to shoot her for being dangerous!!! Luckily for her the girl looking after her called one of us and she was saved. But it has taken years for her to trust people after that, and will never completely leave her. Good work RSPCA!
Have signed the petition, def time for them to answer some questions!

… As for the handling, I guess I sort of expected it, but was still shocked by what a clueless embarrassment it was. There is no excuse for that level of ignorance and lack of training in this day and age! Why on earth don't they spend some of that money on training equine team leaders for each area? They should send them all to Sarah Weston or on our feral foal handling course ha ha! … Ironically, two of the RSPCA officers there had been on IH courses and had training at their rescue from John Jones RA, but they were not in charge of what was happening and were working with others who hadn't a clue. They also said that they hadn't got a portable round–pen to work in, which they would love, because the rescue couldn't afford to buy one! Yet the body that they work for can pay £1500 to get a trained vet with a gun! There are enough trained personnel at one centre, yet they had to fund the training from their own centre's funds and the service they can provide in their locality, isn't available anywhere else. At the very first meeting of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, on June 16 1824, in a London coffee house, Richard Martin, one of the Founders is quoted as saying: "The Society would not primarily exist to prosecute offenders. It would be ill judged for it to become known as a prosecuting Society. The prime aim should be to alter the moral feelings of the county." The RSPCA seems to have travelled a long way in 189 years — unfortunately in entirely the wrong direction.

They seem to be impervious to criticism. At the time of the Spindles Farm scandle I wrote to Ann Widdicomb, who was listed as a trustee. I never even got an acknowledgement, never mind a reply.
