Plans are still being made, but....
If you knew someone was doing a long distance riding/walking challenge (as in across a country/coast to coast/one month of travelling/350+ miles) and needed stop overs for her and her horse would you offer to put them up?
I ask as I'm planning such a trip, and I've done week rides before and stopped off en route, but its been friends of friends offering me and my pony a pit stop. Sometimes no charge, sometimes for a fee. However, this big trek will be to raise (hopefully) a significant amount for charity (dog and horse) - do you think I'll find kind people willing to put us up for a small cost, or even for free. Would you do it to help?
I'm not asking for actual offers here, just wondering what people might be prepared to offer. I think I would help out in such an instance, but I've couch surfed and had couch surfers stay with me before so perhaps I'm used to this kind of 'network' and feel I live in a very friendly area hence my previous good experiences of long rides with stops.
I'm looking for a general feeling on this to help me gauge how successful my appeal for pit stops might be.
For this charity trek I'd be needing somewhere to lay my head...sofa or bed would be a luxury, but a barn or spare stable would do, I'll have a mat and compact sleeping bag and liner. And somewhere for my horse to rest up...field, paddock, stable, barn (horse is barefoot btw). And a supply of grass or hay for him. Something to eat for me and a shower would be AMAZING but totally expecting to rough it. I'd also ask a few of the stops along the route to take delivery of a courriered parcel containing weekly supplies for me to restock at certain points as I'd be travelling with saddle packs only. If a business like b and b was helping I'd of course include their business details in my PR.
Thoughts welcome. Thank you
