Thanks to all who gave me advice and information about riding after hip replacement. Its happening on Monday! I'm a bit scared but determined to be back on board as soon as I can. Thankfully I have good friends who will help my friend and field sharer, Zelda, to keep Murphy ridden regularly. I'll keep you posted on my progress.

Good luck, you'll be fine. You might not remember the first couple of days post op though, those morphine drips are erm, effective. lol When you first get up your new hip leg might feel too long. ;D They really have the pain control sorted and get you up and about very quickly. x

Good luck for Monday. I had mine done last Wednesday. All is going well and there hasn't been much pain at all (so far). I didn't need morphine. Am walking about mainly with crutches but can potter about a bit indoors without. Not bending or twisting is tricky but you become very resourceful! I was very pleased with myself today as I managed to get dressed without help just using a couple of gadgets. The little things eh?

I didn't need morphine. lol, They just gave it to me and with a self administering button to press. It is obviously their protocol for post op as my mum had it too. Two days I think and the drip was down and onto oral co codamol. I had no hip pain whatsoever and the joy of the relief of pain is just the best.

When my mum had hers done she said she had some muscle pain for a little while which the pain meds helped with but she was so relieved to not have the joint pain. Her joint pain had gotten so bad she said she barely felt the post op pain. lol.
She is moving around a lot better now and would be great if she didnt need to have the other one done. lol.

All done on Monday, home yesterday as I was star patient. Scarey coming home but Ok today. Disappointingly no morphine or any interesting drugs, just paracetamol and codeine. Being looked after by OH. You have to watch ITV as consultant said to walk about while the adverts are on! My saddle rack has come into service as crutch holder. I'm not sorry to be missing the horrid weather.

Great news. Yes it is scary, I was even scared getting in the car. lol They sent me home with a zimmer. Got crutches a week later. My mum was out as quickly as you but I was stuck in for a week... some bloods issue and they didn't want me out but allowed it because bloods were at last staring to fall in the right direction. My mum was a much better patient than me.

Good to hear that your op went well. Mine was done on Nov 28th and I am able to walk around indoors quite easily and pain free without crutches. Weather permitting I go for a walk outdoors once a day and have already walked over a mile (with both crutches) several times with no problems. Like you I found it scary being home. I also find it scary when out walking (with hubby) when dogs come bounding up to me. The crutches come in useful for keeping them away. I like dogs but the thought of them jumping up and catching the scar with their claws doesn't appeal!!!! I stopped taking painkillers last Sunday.
