hello, i am new to IH. not sure if this is the right forum to post in or not so please bear with me. a little about me: i am a very nervous rider but i am trying very hard to overcome this. i have a gorgeous 14 year old cob and we have been partners for 4 and a half years. he is as bombproof as they get and his job description when i brought him was to help me get my confidence back and enjoy being around horses again. his primary objective when i ride is to look after me, which he does perfectly. he has taught me lots about horses and myself. he has also taught my previously non-horsey husband to ride. my confidence issues are not with him as he has never done anytthing nasty and if he spooks it is with good reason (which he has only done a few times since i've had him) but he then quickly , makes sure i am ok!! my fears are deep seated from previous encounters at a riding school. i have tried other methods which didnt suit mine or my horses needs. though i have a fantastic instructor who knows when to push me and when enough is enough!! i have watched a lot of the TV programmes and like the methods shown on there. i decided at a horsey show recently to take the plunge and become an IH member, with the hope that it might help my confidence a bit. i am ordering various bits (the halter etc). one question is with the perfect confidence book, is it aimed more at the horses confidence or the humans confidence? thank you for listening to my babble!!

Welcome your cob sounds lovely. The perfect confidence book is for human confidence, and is really useful...it helped me a lot. There's also a perfect confidence course run by 3 of the Recommended Associates. It's brilliant...lots of people dealing with all kinds of confidence issues, and it's a supportive environment to work through things. The 5 day Foundation Course is a great place to learn more about the practical tools and techniques of IH, and you meet some fab people too.

Yes would strongly agree with the other suggestions on here. I'm 48 and haven't ridden properly since I was in my 20s as I am very nervous but very keen. So I think your REALLY brave. Well done and good luck with your cob
