Clipping my mare tomorrow but still umming and ahhing about which clip! She is a sensitive soul and don't want to take too much off, but at the same time she sweats almost every time I ride her. She is 3/4s thoroughbred and not the hardiest soul. Want to take enough off so she stops sweating and I can get her fitter, but not so much that she loses weight as she is a poor doer. Not ridden everyday at the moment due to my crazy work schedule. Any suggestions?

I clip the girth area out and then take it to a low trace clip ...leaving every thing on behind the girth, including all the belly, mine live out 24/7 and though im in spain and its warm in the day and they sweat when ridden, its cold a night... it was white with frost this morning... and you can always take off more if its not enough..

I did a bib clip on Talin, just his gullet and front of his chest and that made a big difference to him. I'd always opt for the smallest you can as you can always take more later but you can't put it back

www.newrider.com/Library/Horse_Care/clipping_how_much.htmlI would adapt the chaser to suit you, I usually did a low chaser, only go back as far on belly as you want, I would usually clip from just behind the girth area, and you can then take of as much or as little neck hair as you want too. I used to take off quite a bit off the neck but had a hardy native, and half her face, so somewhere between the belly and bid and chaser clip.
