Ex- Racer TB 17hh 16 years old, sturgles to hold weight in winter but looks lovely on summer grass. Lovely deep bay colour with white markings.
Nice forward going hack but very sensible and 100% with all traffic etc, can jump, nice fun/sponsored ride type.
Been very well schooled at some point and would properly do dressage with right rider.
Main down points, has sarcoid in arm pit not changed at all in 2 years he's been at my yard, its treated with Bio Oil to keep flies off during summer and if anything it actually is smaller then it was.
Legs fill when he is stabled so needs a home where he is turned out or exercised everyday.
Vaccination, teeth etc all up today. Will be sold with complete brand new wardrobe excluding saddle as his owner has just sold that to pay this months hay and straw bill!
His owner doesn't work as is a stay at home mum and he Partner has just lost his job, I have agreed she can have free livery in exchange for poo picking until she find him a nice home but she has no idea what to advertise him for!
I am thinking £300 to cover his rugs etc, doyou think this fair or am I under pricing him?

I'm very sorry to be negative, but his value I would suggest is only what his tack/rugs is worth, maybe a smidgeon more.
At his age, struggling to hold weight in winter, tb (ten a dozen), and a sarcoid - his own value is almost nothing.

Completely agree Varkie, He has a brand new LW Turnout, MW Turnout and MW stable rug, along with brand new fleece, several new headcollars and leadropes, bandages, Brand new bridle with martingale and bit plus all the useable old stuff still. Her OH spent alot of money on getting him kitted out in the Autumn he was meant to be her horse for life but they no income now and with there little boy as well he needs to go, its all very sad She paid £400 for him with just an old bridle and Turnout, 2 springs ago as a first horse and he has been worth his weight in gold, everyone is so sad to see him being advertised but needs must, he really is a gent. Would you say £350 and reduce to £300?

I think a safe hack is worth his weight in gold - there was a lady on here recently looking for a safe hacking horse to buy...

Such a shame he is so big - if he were smaller, and the price were right, I could have been interested myself. But 17hh is just too big for me!

Hope it works out for your friend and her OH but for my penneth worth I would agree with Chloe that a good safe hack, happily doing other RC activities, fun rides etc would definitely be worth something more, there is always a market for them.

There isn't that much of a market for a horse that age, that size, with physical issues! Safe rides, yes. And with his safeness, people will be interested, but they won't want to pay much because of the issues!
I hope it works for your friend, OP, and that they can keep him. Undoubtedly best for him.
And no, 17hh is definitely too big! 16hh is too big for me - 17hh would be madness!

Oh I would put him up for more you don't want dealers buying him then selling him on, gosh poor chap, would make someone a lovely horse in the right home. Personally if it was me buying him I would pay a lot more but then I love looking after horses who need TLC. I would say £1000 with his blankets then if you find that honest good home drop it down to £600.
God please don't give him away or he could end up in a home that can't really afford his keep he sounds like he needs careful handling in the winter and a knowledgeable home.
Good luck.
