its nice, but! me being , well me the old fart! thinks he would look a lot better if he could move his shoulders,"saddle related" and be a bit more off the forehand, now that would look impressive, a lot of talent there though ,

to me it looks sort of wrong for a horse of that type to be doing that long, low lope of a Western horse, with sliding stops & pirouettes. They are called Vanners for a reason - they are essentially draft horses. Maybe I'm biassed as Red goes much better in harness than under saddle, and I can hardly get him to canter at all. With him I'm going with the nature and abilities of the horse rather than trying to make him into something he is not.
And how many horses will stand still, untethered, while you heave a pair of builders sacks full of hay onto his back and then walk off happily to the feeding area with it?

That saddle is certainly not suited to that horse, it is almost sitting on the quarters.

Mmmm... gotta agree with the saddle comments,..it doesn't look like it's an enjoyable experience for the little horse does it??,..the horse doesn't look like he's smiling at all to me... Does look strange too, watching a traditional doing it 'the USA way'!!

Well i've got the tail at home,...but thank goodness i haven't got the mane too,....jesus,...my boy gets warm enough in the summer with his (i plait it up for this reason alone),..so would hate to contend with that length..!!

He looks like a Julip model horse with that impossibly long mane!
I thought the lope quite suited him - looks better for a vanner than someone trying to force him into a dressage outline. Would love to try that with my little orange vanner one day, he's just so 'bling' already, and a nice spangly Western saddle would just suit him down to the ground. I'm never a fan of the sliding halts and spins though, for any horse, always makes me wince a bit when I watch them.

I thought that little horse travelled pretty good considering he was bred to pull a cart not have fancy footwork, flat lead changes, and grab his ss in a long slide. No, he wasn't bred for it, but he sure did his breed proud for making nicer maneuvers than most QHs. I was impressed that a vanner could be athletic in that way.

What a lovely horse. I always like to see a cob type doing something different. Just started western lessons with Pumba-the-Fjord. She loves it.
