Minx a miniature shetland mare who is 7 this year. She is a naturally quite excitable pony... normally if anyone is running around in the field, she is at the front of it all and continues well after everyone else has stopped!
She she can also be quite marish (that typical chestnut mare attitude)
Her young rider has learn on Minx and i suppose the pair have kinda learnt to come off the lead together. Pyper is a super quiet rider with very light hands as its the only way she's ever been taught.
Now Minx love fast paced work.. but especially if she hasn't done a lot lately she does have a tendancy to try and pop a buck in when she canter's.
The ears are forward and the head does try to go down, we switched her from a normal snaffle to a wilkie snaffle in the summer when she started to get a bit strong and she is much more controllable in the wilkie and when she does try to get head down in trot or canter Pyper knows to just lift her hands slightly which lifts the pony's head back up.
Back and teeth all been checked (back is checked regularally) and she's in a treeless saddle (and if saddle was any problem i'd expect back problems) so i'm thinking it might just be an excitement thing.
The other thing pony does especially in canter is open her mouth so i was thinking of trying a flash on her.
But wondered what other peoples views were? Minx does have her quirks, she is very funny with having her legs brush or picked up (we got sarah weston out to help with this as was turning dangerous at one point when trying to pick up the front leg the back leg comes up at you! Unfortantly all this mare's bad habit came from spending a summer working a few times times a week at a pony ride place, although i was there i wasn't paying proberly as much attention to what they were doing with her or how they were handling her! Hence now a pony who over a year later is still funny with her legs and having girth tightened, but we are working on that, slowly!)
