I dont understand why they would need to be shot though, christ I know enough people who would offer a temporary home if need be until a perm home could be found.

I believe an animal charity called Hillside are trying to help them.. But is just so sad. It sounds like they have been put in there to really upset the locals, but with no thought for their welfare at all. They don't look that bad but the fact that there are dead horse laying there, it really isn't good for them.

Saw this on the tv last night, it's just grim. I'm sorry for the horses, but terribly sorry for the locals too - what an awful mess the horses have made in such a special place. And the locals are fearful of repercussions from the horses' owner. So I suppose anyone trying to rescue/remove the horses would be threatened?
Quite shocked that the police won't get involved - so there's no incentive for the owner to do anything at all, especially as the Woodland Trust appear to be feeding his horses for him.

that's right Liz and taking them would be theft The owners have to be given notice to remove them from whoever's land it is, which is enforced by the courts.

but if the owners have been given notice and are over it which the report said there has to be some kind of difference?

yes they can be summonsed to court bramblesmum. We are having similar issues at the moment with cattle and they keep asking for an adjournement

I think the law and the police force are rubbish' a friend of mine had 8 sheep maimed by a dog' he got evidence and found the dog notified the police but because the dog was owned and lived with travelers nothing could be done and my friend was told iff he did anything about it on his own he would be arrested' the police are scared of these people I'm sure'

megansmum the police and local authorities are stretched to the limit. They use their resources by priority. It is not easy, especially getting a positive ID and getting someone to court with enough evidence for a conviction. They just move on before their court appearance unfortunately
