Very interesting, especially in regards to consumption of dry matter as a % of body weight. I feed round bales, but instead of just letting the horses have free intake, I unload them near the fence and fork hay some hay over into a feeder. Hay is too expensive to allow for as much wastage as was noted in the article!

Interesting to see that the feeder saves 20% of the hay, compared to feeding it loose. The cheap net, being just as effective as the most expensive one, until it starts to collapse and the horses can walk on it.
We have tried several types over the years and the munch stations are the best in the stable, but the square shaped sheep feeders that we have up here are good for rationing the forage but poor for stopping them bashing their pasterns if they try to paw. This home–made one seems worth a try though
