Hi, my 3 1/2 yr old has lived in the same 25 acre field with the same herd of 10 ponies since he was a foal. However, the farmer has sold the land and so we have to move. Unfortunatley, none of the rest of the herd are coming to our new yard.
I am looking for some advice on how to help him settle into a new home without the security of his herd with him. I will have the option of keeping him in, or turning him out at the new place, but if he is turned out he will be in his own paddock rather than with a herd. He has only ever been in a stable once, and that was when he was gelded - so I am thinking turning him out will be best.
If anyone has any tips / advice they would be much appreciated, as i am becoming a bit anxious about such a big change for him.
thank you in advance

He would probably settle quicker if put in with another horse for company but i guess as long as he is in a paddock next to others he would be ok

I would definetely put him out rather than stable, I am sure he will soon adjust Such a shame so many places dont do group turn out but most horses seem to adjust Hope all goes well x

i suggest giving a mild sedative paste or powder to help him adjust from being taken away from all his friends, turn out with others for company in adjoining paddocks as he'll run around shouting for the others that have gone,it'll be hard for him to settle for at least a few weeks so expect the unexpected.

find him someone to settle with asap, that always helps, because my herd is very settled all the horses who come here seem to chill immediately, make sure he can smell and touch feild mates over a fence make plenty of time to do it, and check everyone's time table of the new livery go and see them if you haven't already moved, and ask for there help in making there horses available,
