My Big fella has had 2 recent injections for bloodworms as suspected by my vet/oesteo (despite regular chemical worming and clear faecal egg counts) Today I spotted this live red worm on the floor in my barn, I suspect it had come in with the wheelbarrow as i had just been out to the field..do you think its a normal worm that you would expect to see in the earth (it rained very heavy yesterday) or do you think it could be a redworm / blood worm / strongyle? (it does have a pointy end) It was about 2-3 centimetres long... am feeling very scared the injections havent worked properly Here are 2 pics and also a link to a pic from a vet site showing photo of stronglyes (ive been trying to compare the two) Link to photo of strongyles found off the internet from a vet practice www.rollinghillsveterinaryservice.com/images/worms.jpg

Looks like an earthworm to me. I don't think strongles have the 'belt'/raised area. Probably a brandling btw. they are common under poos and in the compost heap. There's a photo of blood worms in a petri dish down the page. www.horsetalk.co.nz/worming/strongyles.shtml

You're not alone.. I picked at a dead & squished slug for 5 minutes not long ago convinced it was a tapeworm! ;D
