I'm posting here because so many of you have helped him, and me, over the last few years, so I wanted you to know He's gone. It was inevitable, I'd made the decision to do it in the new year because his dangerous episodes were becoming a daily occurrence, getting worse amd more frequent, but yesterday the decision was taken sort of out of my hands.
He'd been having a good day, happy and calm, then it was like a switch flicked and he lost it, ended up so stressed he coIicked/tied up and went down amd got cast.
As far as we can tell there was nothing specific that happened to cause the stress, and we were at the yard at the time so would have seen.
So he's gone, and I miss him, I feel wretched, relieved, guilty and empty. Feel very much like I failed him, but there were no more options for him.

You did everything possible for that horse. I've followed your posts quietly for what must be years now. In awe of the explorations and investigations you had for him or checked out for him and the way you coped with it all.
He was a lucky boy to have had you. Of course it's sad he had so much stress along the way but he was loved and cared for.
RIP snip, you will be remembered fondly by so many.
And hugs to you trouble, a difficult time for you indeed. X x x

Oh Jo, he was such a beautiful horse and you tried so hard to help him. I honestly don't know many people who would have gone to the lengths you did for him, he wanted for nothing with you. You should not feel guilty at all, he was a very lucky boy to find you and you gave him his best shot at happiness.
I'm so sorry he's gone but I agree that he couldn't have gone on for much longer if his attacks were getting worse. I think you had made the right decision, I went through it before Christmas with Cosworth and even though you know it's right for the horse, it still hurts like hell. Run free Snip xxx

Oh Jo! I'm so sad for you. I know how much you put into Snip - the highs and lows, the hopes and then those hopes dashed. He's going to leave a big hole in your life.
You most certainly did not fail him, though. You persevered where many others would have given up ages ago. And as for feeling relieved, I can understand that. Much as you loved him, owning him was an ordeal and it has to be a relief for it to be over. Don't feel guilty about that, I think it's only natural. Whatever was going on with Snip is now over for him, so you are also allowed to feel relief for him too.
Run free, gorgeous man.

Fail him?? Trouble you put your heart and soul into him to try and help him and get him right... No-one could have done it better... He's now at peace and won't be bothered anymore by his episodes.
Hugs and a huge well done for trying, Trouble
RIP and Run Free Snip - you couldn't have had a better owner xxxx

On top of everything, vet suspects something neurological too, whether a brain tumour or something else. Something that couldn't be fixed for all the money and time and trying in the world.

Jo you have been the best owner that Snip could ever have dreamt of. You did so very much for him and always had his interests at heart, never your own. He was a very lucky boy being yours and to the end you gave him everything he needed. In time I hope that knowing you did the right thing will give you comfort and peace of mind. You absolutely have not failed him in any way, shape or form.
RIP Handsome Snip, at peace now.

So sorry Jo ... don`t ever doubt yourself. You always did the best by him. It is heartbreaking making that decision any time, but sometimes it is the last kindness we can offer them, when we know they will never truly be well.
RIP Snip xx

Maybe torturing myself here, but looking through pics. Remembering a happier Snip. The day I got him home, a wild eyed 3 year old! After a couple of weeks of TLC Early stages of backing Always was a bit quirky! But also amazing Not always the most elegant of creatures Loved having his lips scratched The day he learned to jump Doing what was good at...being beautiful Inhave Permission to post
