Today i gave up my attempt to keep Apollo au naturelle and clipped off the fluff. Took him in my friends lorry last week for short journey and he was dripping before we even started doing anything. Also his legs have been quite itchy recently, so the whole lot has gone. Certainly rode out like he was lighter lol :-) got him a smart new rug with some fill and he didnt savage me like he did last winter when i thought about rugging him. Two bin bags of hair later and this was him with his rug on He still has his mane and think il tidy his face up a bit more at a later date, he was starting to get impatient when his hay ran out!

Bless him! I can sympathise, Blaze is sooooo hairy atm, but not really working much as I have been doing extra hours at work. I think I might have to clip her soon so that I can start getting her fit. He does look smart in his rug! Does he cope ok being out 24/7 clipped? This is my girls' first winter outside and I worry that she might get cold if I razz all her hair off too! Yes, I am a neurotic mummy! ;D

BJM - my ponies have always lived out 24/7. My pony is atleast 20, lived out fully clipped rain, snow, ice, blizzards and always looked very happy! Obviously were rugged up and had hay in the field etc but they definitely cope! I now have a tb exracer who was very very underweight when i got him in june, he also lives out 24/7 with a blanket type clip and so far is managing to hold his weight. And my horses compete, go on a couple of hour rides at the weekends, go on gallops, xc schooling etc so they do work!

It does look very smart doesnt it :-) do like burgendy too. He was starting to sweat stood in stable before i started clipping. He is still roasting with no fur, m/w and his long mane :-) he is very hot blooded! trimmer will be happy, no more mud dreadlocks to deal with lol!
