Bit of a fact finding mission here My OH has been approached about taking a minimum 6 month job in Dublin. As far as somewhere to live is concerned anywhere within a 20 mile radius or a max of a 30 - 40 minute commute either by car or by train would be ideal. I am thinking that if I am going to be there for at least six months it would make sense to move Vardi to be with me for that period, so any suggestions of good livery yards ideally using IH principles?. I still need some help with him so someone who is good with slightly tricky horses would be perfect. Tis all a bit of a voyage of discovery at the moment and I am just trying to check the logistics

El, who comes on here and wrote the book about her horse Ozzie heads up Irish Horsemanship. I would contact them to start networking over here. I'm in Waterford, so too far to have any local knowledge, but Irish Horsemanship has a forum, trainers etc. irishhorsemanship.com/

Not familiar with yards in Dublin unfortunately so cannot help there but there is a monty approved instructor (or whatever it's called) near Dublin. In Kildare. There's a website (equus ireland) and if that's too far I'm sure she will know other yards.

Oh how exciting, I love dublin. I live in the north of ireland and have to say it is quite difficult to find ih minded people up here although there are a few about. You will notice that on here irish members are few in comparison to the uk.
A few practical things for you to think about - dublin traffic is pretty bad and I only ever drive if I'm going to the airport as that is north of dublin, I would suggest finding somewhere with good public transport links. Dublin is an expensive city and in fact most of the republic has high living costs at the moment, it was announced yesterday that VAT is going up to 23 percent and a load of other austerity measures will be in place over the next few years to try and get ireland out of financial trouble. Will your OH be employed by an irish company?

Will your OH be employed by an irish company? OH will be on an (initial may be extended) six month contract, with an Irish Company, he will be based in Dublin 4, so we are guessing living Dun Loaghaire, Bray would be the right side, we both want to do countryside so will be looking for a rental outside the city. That being said I could travel from home in the direction of the wicklow mountains for a livery. Kanga thanks for the irish Horsemanship info will get networking ASAP as if this is happening it will be a February start.....gulp so I will have to find a house, rent out ours, move dogs, put furniture into storage, sell cars (we live in Holland so may as well get rid as we have no intention of coming back), buy cars, move horse and be ready to send himself off for his first day by then....oh dear god

My word chavhorse, that is a lot of organising to do! Will you have chance to come over for a look around befire you move? At the most we will get over for a long weekend and will probably spend that time looking for a rental property that is happy to take 3 well behaved dogs! OH is having a chat with the company next week and all including start dates will be confirmed then, I am hoping we can organize a week before finishing one job and starting another. I have looked at a few livery yards on line and they are charging between 110 and 130 euro a week

Sounds fab I would move self, OH and dogs first then send for horsey buys you a little more time to look round, so unsettling if you move him then decide it's not the right yard etc and need to move again. At least once you re over there you can do the drive, check the hacking etc etc

And if we have bad weather I'd be tempted to leave horsey where he is until march. I've moved house far too much...

Livery can be very pricy here but especially anywhere near Dublin....hopefully by getting some contact you may fond a private yard that might be a bit less pricy...but ya livery here is expensive....

No help I'm afraid. I'm in a very rural part of the West and know nothing of Dublin area. Good luck though if the move comes off.

Good idea Cookie I think I will just relax, take a chill pill, and concentrate on getting OH, Dogs and house contents over then spend some time having a good look round at yards and move himself over in the spring so I can enjoy hacking in all that glorious countryside in the spring and summer. It is all quite exciting in a kind of OMG way
