I noticedthat on the bag of linseed i got it says for horses in med to heavy work. i am worried it will be giving her too much energy. my friend noticed shes been really on her toes. i am feeding according to the guidelines-2 of the little scoops that came in the bag and shes gettibg one scoop of brewers yeast between her two feeds plus aalphaalpha and smallscoop of suregrow. Any thoughts?

It doesn't make any of mine on their toes but all horses are different. I'm not up on the suregrow etc. so there may be too much of something now. Try halving the dose of both the linseed and brewers yeast.
I heard of a couple of horses recently who didn't do well on brewers yeast which surprized me as mine that get it do well on it. The owner stopped it and started activated charcoal with good results.

I just micronised linseed for my shetland who i'm trying to get weight on.. i think if you use the amount said on the bag that it works for skin etc.. but add more and it will put weight on.. at least that is what i was told when advised to use linseed oil by feed company to put weight on my cronic laminitis/ems pony.

I wouldn't have thought two small scopps would make her on her toes but you could probably half it and see if theres any improvement. Could it just be the weather? It's turned nippy and windy down here which always makes for speedier rides for a while!

I'm not sure what linseedis in terms of feed value - I would have thought mainly protein and oils. It's carbohydrates that give energy - are you feeding a fair amount of cereals or beet pulp? Sugar in beet pulp can make them full of beans, or the starch converted to sugars in cereals. Or as Michelle says, other environmental factors. I feed any of my underweight residents a cupfull of micronised linseed daily - it helps weight gain and coats/skin.

No she gets TopSpec Alpha(non molassed)- (just changed her onto this as was on Dengie Alphaa but changed to Topspec as its cheaper. Suregrow, brewers yeast and the linseed. I just put a wee bit of water in the feed to make it more pallatable. She was 2 in April so only a baby. She is out during the day and in at night on haylage with a feed in the morning and at night. The linseed and breweres yeast were recommened for her coat. It could well be the weather- she's only been on the brewers yeast and linseed for a week or so. I hadn't teally noticed any change in her behaviour but I don't see her daily and my friend whose ard she lives on had said she was being really skittish.

I've never heard it happen with any other horse but haylage used to drive my old connemara mare clean out of her mind. She went from being anyones ride to being unshowable on it. Might be that.
