When you give a charitable donation? On another thread we were discussing the income of some of the larger charities. Do you care what they spend their money on? Do you research their turn over or activity before donating? I was Reading an article about a horse taken in by a charity as an unbroken youngster, it was so emaciated it needed round the clock vet care and could not stand unaided for 3 weeks. That's a large vet bill for an unproven horse. Now, I've spent a disproportionate amount of cash on my ponies broken leg if we are being accountants about it but that's my own money. Should a horse charity spend 'whatever it takes' on one horse or should there be some pragmatism for the greater good? As I type I'm wondering if different charities have a different ethos on this, perhaps they do. I wonder how clear they make it in their promotional material. Or maybe once we ve handed over the cash it's not up to us, maybe the good folks at the charities know best? Now before anyone falls out with me, there's a bit of devils advocate in this but I am interested in accountability of these charities, whether that matters and also the prioritising of the individual v the greater good. Thoughts anyone?
